Hillyer Memorial Christian Church has no Creed but Christ. In Worship, and all aspects of our lives we seek unity with those we worship with, and other faith traditions. In worship, we seek to make God and religion accessible to everyone.
Here at Hillyer, worship is as vital as the day’s work; as appealing as the arts; as intelligent as the sciences; as intimate as the home, and always inspiring kindness and love.
— Rev. Dr. Daniel U'Ren, Senior Minister

Sunday worship at 11 AM

If you are wondering what worship at Hillyer will feel like, let us describe what you might experience on a typical Sunday morning:

Our worship style is out of the free worship tradition, which means that it does not follow a formal liturgy or order. However, there is a certain formality to the service, with our ministers wearing robes and speaking from the pulpit. Lay participation is very much a part of our church’s life, and so Elders and Liturgists are integrally involved on Sunday mornings. As in most worship services, music provides the energy, and we are blessed to be led by a wonderful choir and organist.

And, of course, if you know the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), not only is communion at the heart of our worship, the table is open to anyone, regardless of faith background, gender, race, or sexual orientation. When we say all are welcome, we mean ALL are welcome to experience the love and grace of God. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every time we come together.

While no church can truly be all things to all people, Hillyer strives to let each of us fashion a place of comfort here. So, dress formally or casually. Sing loud like a soloist or pray quietly like a monk. In short, be yourself. Our earnest hope is that you will come and “try us out.” We would love to have the opportunity to welcome you personally.

CHILDREN

Children of all ages are welcome to participate with you in our morning worship services or may wish to attend age-specific worship experiences.

Childcare for infants and toddlers is available for each service. Nurseries are located on the second floor behind the sanctuary. The nursery is staffed by trained attendants and experienced volunteers who will make sure that your child’s stay is a safe and pleasant experience. Any of our greeters would love to walk you to the nursery whenever you are ready.

Children in kindergarten through second grade are invited to participate in Children’s Church, a special worship and education experience designed just for them. They may leave the sanctuary for

Children’s Church following the Children’s Moment and may be picked up after worship in the children’s area on the third floor.

For children third grade and above, as well as those who choose to stay in the sanctuary during either service, we have place clipboards with activity sheets, sermon note graphic organizers and colored pencils are available by the sanctuary doors.
